Getting a tattoo is not only an artistic experience — it’s a procedure that involves your body’s largest organ: your skin.Proper preparation ensures a smoother session, faster healing, and the best results possible. Tattoo Pre-Appointment Guide.
🧭 1. What to Do Before Your Appointment
One Week Before
Start moisturizing daily with a fragrance-free lotion.
Avoid sunburns, tanning beds, or peeling skin.
Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water every day.
Eat well and rest properly; a strong body heals better.
2–3 Days Before
Exfoliate gently with a mild scrub or loofah to remove dead skin.
Continue hydrating and moisturizing.
Avoid alcohol or recreational drugs — they thin your blood.
Do not shave the area unless instructed; your artist will handle it if needed.
Night Before
Get a full night’s sleep.
Eat a balanced dinner rich in protein and complex carbs.
Prepare loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to the tattoo area.
Pack essentials (see below).
🎒 2. What to Bring on the Day
Valid ID (you’ll need this for consent).
Snacks and bottled water — especially for long sessions.
Phone charger or power bank.
Headphones, book, or playlist for comfort.
Cash or card for payment and tipping.
Optional: small pillow or blanket for long sittings.
🚫 3. Things to Avoid Before Tattooing
❌ Alcohol (at least 24 hours prior) — causes excessive bleeding.
❌ Caffeine — increases sensitivity and restlessness.
❌ Aspirin or Ibuprofen — thins blood unless medically prescribed.
❌ Heavy exercise before your session — it dehydrates your skin.
❌ Fake tan or oily products — interfere with ink absorption.
Keep your body calm, clean, and well-rested.
🧼 4. Hygiene and Skin Prep
Shower before your appointment — arrive clean and deodorant-free.
Avoid applying perfumes, lotions, or oils on the tattoo area.
Wear loose, breathable clothing that exposes the area easily.
If getting a back or thigh tattoo, bring shorts or a top that allows comfort and access.
Do not shave irritated skin or open wounds.
CLEAN SKIN = BETTER INK
💬 5. At the Studio
Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete forms.
Communicate any allergies or medical concerns.
Tell your artist if you feel faint, dizzy, or need a break.
Follow your artist’s hygiene instructions exactly — it’s part of your safety.
🧘♂️ 6. Mental & Physical Preparation
Tattoos can take hours — stay patient and relaxed.
Bring your favorite music, show, or audiobook.
Practice calm breathing — steady, deep breaths help reduce pain.
Remember: the discomfort is temporary, but your tattoo is forever.
